Exhibition: »Victor Hugo. The Dark Romanticist«

When »the arts« became »art« in the Romantic period, those talented in more than one field had to make a choice. This pressure to specialize caused plenty of anguish, giving rise to counter-movements that attempted to bring all the arts together. An impulse lecture will examine the phenomenon of the doubly gifted. On a shared tour of the exhibition, the audience can discover how closely Victor Hugo’s imagery was entwined with his literary work. Next will be a look at social realities today.
